Useless Things

Zaid Ibn Arqam (RA) narrates, “The Prophet (S) used to say…

Allāhumma ʼinnī ʼaʻūḏu bi-ka min al-ʻajzi wal-kasali wal-jubni wal-buḵli wal-harami wa ʻaḏābil-qabri, allāhumma ʼāti nafsī taqwā-hā, wa zakki-hā anta ḵayru man zakkā-hā, anta waliyyuhā wa mawlā-hā, allāhumma ʼinnī ʼaʻūḏu bi-ka min ʻilmin lā yanfaʻu, wa min qalbin lā yaḵšhaʼu, wa min nafsin lā tašhbaʻu, wa min daʻwatin lā yustajābu la-hā

O Allah, indeed I seek refuge with You from weakness, laziness, cowardice, greed, old age and the punishment of the grave.

O Allah, grant my soul piety and purify it, since You are the best of who purifies it. You are its helper and its lord/protector.

O Allah, indeed I seek refuge with You from knowledge which does not benefit, from a heart which is not humbled and does not submit, a soul which is not satisfied and from a du’a which is not answered.

Recorded in Ṣaḥiḥ Muslim.
